DOYLESTOWN, PA (September 13, 2025) -- The King's College football team struggled in the second quarter, allowing 28 points, on their way to a 49-7 setback at Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon in their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opener. The Monarchs drop to 0-2 to start the season, including 0-1 in the conference, while the Aggies move to 1-1 with a 1-0 conference mark.
It was a hectic start to the contest as King's (0-2, 0-1 MAC) threw an interception on their first drive but responded with a fumble recovered by
James Rush. The first-quarter chaos continued on the next play as the Monarchs then committed their own fumble which set up Delaware Valley's (1-1, 1-0 MAC) first scoring drive of the game as the hosts led, 7-0, with 8:51 to go in the quarter.
Neither team converted on their next possession despite some solid gains from the Monarchs. King's had some momentum entering the second as
Jaelin Mims completed a pass to
Rob Ford for 12 yards as time expired in the first, but the drive stalled, and the Delaware Valley offense surged for their 28 points in the quarter as the Monarchs faced a 35-0 halftime deficit.
The Monarch defense did their job on the opening drive of the second half as
Rahman Alexander broke up a pass on 4th-and-3 to force a turnover on downs. Despite a 44-yard run from
Brennan Robinson midway through the next drive, the King's offense could not deliver as another miscue gave the Aggies good field position to tack on their lone scoring drive in the third to jump ahead, 42-0.
King's found the end zone with 2:47 remaining in the third, putting together a seven-play, 52-yard scoring drive. After
Shemar Ellis came out with three carries for 23 yards, Robinson took off again, this time for 24 yards to get the Monarchs in the red zone. Mims and Robinson chipped away at the difference to the goal line, and Ellis ran it in from nine yards out to put King's on the board, trailing 42-7 with 2:37 to go in the third.
The defense showed up again, forcing a three-and-out to begin the fourth, but after another empty trip the Aggies strung together a lengthy 10-play, 63-yard drive over 7:13 of the game clock as their lead swelled to 49-7 with 6:40 remaining. The pace of play slowed as neither team had much going down the stretch as the Monarchs dropped their MAC opener, 49-7, on the road at Delaware Valley on Saturday.
Robinson finished the day with 102 rushing yards on 13 carries, while Ford led the receivers with 22 yards on a pair of grabs. Mims threw for 53 yards on five completions, and
Aiden Cook caught two passes for 21 yards. Ellis totaled 37 yards on eight carries with the touchdown run.
The defense was led by
Nathan Taylor with 13 tackles, including eight solo, with 0.5 tackle for loss, while Rush added 10 with 1.0 tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Both
James Mangine and
Zach Hulsizer added six tackles, and
Xander Murray had five with 2.0 tackles for loss and two hurries.
On special teams,
Gavin Wolfe punted six times for 263, including a 44-yarder, one inside the 20, and a touch back.
Brandon Auguste returned seven kickoffs for 142 yards, and
Noah Tapler kicked off twice for 115 yards.
Delaware Valley was paced on offense by Mike Galasso with 335 passing yards on 19 completions with four touchdowns, including 139 yards on five catches with two touchdowns to Gavin Migliori. Zyaire Goffney-Fleming led the run game with 51 yards and a score, while Jeremiah Clark had 12 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
As a team, the Monarchs had the edge in the run game, 167-112, over the Aggies for the game.
King's looks to respond next Saturday afternoon as they host FDU-Florham in their home opener at McCarthy Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
