ONEONTA, NY (September 7, 2025)— With just under 90 seconds to play,
Anthony Ramirez headed in a cross from
Cameron Jones to salvage a 3-3 draw for the King's College men's soccer team against Hartwick on Sunday afternoon in the second game of the Mayor's Cup Tournament. The result moves the Monarchs to 2-1-1 on the year, while the Hawks now stand at 1-2-1.
Hartwick struck first in the 20
th on a terrific shot from Devin Chandler into the top right corner of the net from about 30 yards out, leaving little chance for keeper
Shane Hughes to make a play.
The Monarchs wasted no time getting back into the game, finding the equalizer in the 24
th minute. A
Philip Permyashkin cross from left to right landed directly in front of Sophomore
Nick Tighe to cash in his first collegiate goal for King's and tie the game at 1-1.
Just before half, Hughes made a nice save to send the game to halftime tied at one apiece. Hartwick led the first half battle in both shots and corners, taking six shots and taking an impressive 11 corner kicks in the first half to the Monarchs three shots and one corner.
15 minutes into the second half at 60:01, Hartwick took a 2-1 lead following a shot off the crossbar and off the head of the Hawks' Wilson Mount past a diving Hughes.
In the 71
st, Jones knotted the game at 2-2 for King's after a free kick and a flurry of activity in the box. Jones controlled the ball at the top of the box and deposited a low running shot into the bottom left corner.
No less than a minute later on a Hawks throw, a header snuck past Hughes through the right side of the net and giving Hartwick a 3-2 lead with less than 20 minutes to play. Ramirez's header capped off a terrific game between two evenly matched teams. The goal marked Ramirez's second of the season, while the assist was Jones's first of the 2025 campaign.
Jones led the Monarchs with three points on Sunday with a goal and an assist, both his first of the season. Permyashkin led King's with three shots and picked up his first assist of the season while Tighe, Ramirez and
Evan Egnatovich also took a shot. Hughes hauled in four crucial saves in his first start of the season, helping the Monarchs preserve the draw.
Jones and Permyashkin were named to the Mayor's Cup All-Tournament Team following the game for their performances over the weekend.
King's men's soccer is back on the road once again this week as they head to Ithaca on Saturday, September 13 for a match against the Bombers at 4:00 PM.
