-- The King's College men's soccer team fell to Lebanon Valley College, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Betzler Field, suffering its first MAC Freedom loss of the season. The Monarchs move to 4-6-4 overall, while the Dutchmen improve to 9-2-2.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring in the 24th minute (23:31) to take a 1-0 advantage. King's battled back in the second half, with
CJ Anderson netting his first goal of the season in the 53rd minute (52:56) to even the score at 1-1. Anderson's goal marked his first since the 2024 season, while
Joaquin Cedillo recorded his team-leading fifth assist of the year on the equalizer.
The Monarchs continued to battle defensively to keep the contest level, with
Evan Corcoran and
Parker Gordon coming up with crucial defensive stops to prevent Lebanon Valley from regaining the lead. Goalkeeper
Ben Van Valkenburg also delivered another strong performance, finishing with four saves. One of his biggest stops came late in the second half when he dove at full extension to deny a dangerous close-range attempt from the Dutchmen's leading scorer, keeping King's within striking distance.
However, Lebanon Valley broke the tie in the 78th minute (77:35) to take a 2-1 lead. The Monarchs continued to push for a late equalizer, but the Dutchmen held on for the conference victory.
King's finished with a 10-7 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks, while both teams recorded four saves. Van Valkenburg's four stops helped keep the Monarchs competitive throughout the contest.
The Monarchs return to action on Saturday, October 17, traveling to Center Valley, Pennsylvania, to take on DeSales University in another MAC Freedom matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
