Fast Start Not Enough as Aggies Storm Back to Defeat Monarchs, 61-35

WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 1, 2026) -- The King's College football team scored 28 first-half points and built a pair of two-score leads, but Delaware Valley University rallied after halftime to hand the Monarchs a 61-35 setback in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) action Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. King's falls to 3-4 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while the Aggies improve to 6-2 overall and 6-1 in the MAC.

The Monarch offense needed just six plays to cover 62 yards on its opening possession. Brandon Auguste opened the scoring with 11:22 remaining in the first quarter, cutting to the right and weaving through traffic before slipping past a tackle attempt and racing untouched into the end zone on a 10-yard touchdown run.

The Monarchs immediately put Delaware Valley in a difficult position on the ensuing kickoff. Aaron Losada's kick was muffed and rolled out of bounds at the Aggies' one-yard line, forcing Delaware Valley to begin deep in its own territory. The visitors responded with an impressive 99-yard touchdown drive, but a missed extra point left King's in front 7-6.

It took the Monarchs just two plays to answer.

After Auguste ripped off a 60-yard run to the Delaware Valley 18-yard line, Jaelin Mims lofted a perfectly placed pass to Devin Duana in the corner of the end zone. Duana made a diving grab for the 18-yard touchdown reception with 45 seconds remaining in the opening quarter, extending the lead to 14-6.

Delaware Valley trimmed the deficit to 14-13 early in the second quarter on a 51-yard touchdown pass. The Aggies initially attempted a two-point conversion after their second touchdown of the day, but a penalty backed them up and forced them to settle for the extra point instead.

King's responded once again less than 90 seconds later.

Facing third-and-three near midfield, Mims connected with Eric Zebrowski in motion on a short swing pass. Zebrowski accelerated through the Delaware Valley defense and sprinted 53 yards for a touchdown at the 12:01 mark of the second quarter, restoring a 21-13 Monarch advantage.

The Aggies answered with another touchdown drive to close within 21-19, but the Monarchs put together one of their best possessions of the afternoon before halftime. During the 13-play, 75-yard march, Mims floated a pass over the middle on first-and-10 from the Delaware Valley 40-yard line that Brandon Auguste somehow secured with a spectacular one-handed grab while fully extended in the air. The highlight-reel catch gave King's a fresh set of downs and helped keep the drive alive. Seven plays later, Auguste capped the 7:31 possession by fighting his way across the goal line on a three-yard touchdown run with 1:55 remaining in the half, sending the Monarchs into the locker room with a 28-19 advantage.

The Monarchs carried a 28-19 lead into the locker room after holding Delaware Valley scoreless over the final seven minutes of the second quarter.

Delaware Valley opened the second half with a short touchdown drive following a long kickoff return and closed within 28-26. King's wasted little time answering.

After a Delaware Valley personal foul moved the Monarchs into Aggie territory, Mims delivered a screen pass to Kival Clarke, who used a pair of blocks before bursting down the sideline untouched for a 56-yard touchdown with 12:01 remaining in the third quarter. The score pushed the Monarch advantage back to nine at 35-26.

The Aggies, however, seized momentum from there, scoring touchdowns on five consecutive possessions spanning the third and fourth quarters. Delaware Valley took its first lead of the game, 40-35, late in the third quarter before adding three more touchdowns in the fourth to pull away.

Mims finished 16-of-21 passing for 245 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding 37 rushing yards. Auguste turned in another outstanding performance, rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries while adding two receptions for 22 yards including the incredible one-handed snag. Clarke led the receiving corps with three catches for 87 yards and a touchdown, while Zebrowski totaled four catches for 60 yards and a score. Duana added five receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Jacob Mullery, James Mangine, Connor Hughes, and David Ennis each recorded seven tackles to lead the Monarchs. Michael Richino added four stops, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hurry, while Will Mecca broke up a pass as King's defense spent much of the afternoon defending against a Delaware Valley offense that finished with 607 total yards.

The Monarchs return to action next Saturday when they hit the road for the final time of the regular season, facing Albright College in MAC competition. Kickoff against the Lions is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Reading, PA.
