Vaughan Breaks Program Record as Monarchs Fall in Season Finale

ASTON, PA (February 20, 2026) -- The King's College women's ice hockey team concluded their 2025-26 season with a 3-0 loss to Neumann in their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest, Friday night at the IceWorks Skating Complex. The Monarchs finish the season with a 1-24-0 overall record, going 1-20-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Knights improve to 7-18-0 on the season and 5-16-0 in the MAC. Despite the result, King's celebrated a bit of history as Maddie Vaughan suited up for her 100th contest, passing Jordan Dittmer to become the program's all-time leader in career games played.

The Monarchs opened with pace as Vaughan won the first draw and the Monarchs produced early looks from Riley Kumrow and Abby Barlocker. The hosts pressed right back, but goaltender Will McPherson met the moment with consecutive saves to settle the opening minutes.

The next segment turned into a grind in King's end. Caitlin Dube laid out for a block on the first extended stand as the Monarchs forced multiple shots wide while clearing the front of the net. Neumann maintained possession of the puck with a series of faceoff wins, but McPherson closed the door on each attempt.

Midway through the frame, King's killed the game's first penalty with composure. Barlocker, Annie Sommer, and Kumrow each recorded blocks, while McPherson remained perfect in net to complete the kill. The Monarchs answered with a response shift as Alexis Jones and Sommer forced work at the other end.

The period finished with traded chances and another heavy segment of defending for King's. Aerie Sanders, Victoria Fleury-Wright, Amanda Sokol, and Eva Goner stacked blocks across multiple entries. King's generated one more look through Goner from distance, but the hosts found a late tally to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

King's started the second with the possession and tempo. Vaughan and Barlocker won back‑to‑back draws and the Monarchs put three quick shots on target as Sommer and Fleury‑Wright tested the goalie. The push continued with a point look from Fleury‑Wright off a set play.

A roughing minor on the Knights gave King's its first power play and the man advantage unit produced several high-quality scoring opportunities. Sokol, Barlocker, Jerrett Tietz, Brenna Munn, and Fleury‑Wright all funneled pucks to the net, while Emma Heinrich won consecutive offensive‑zone faceoffs to extend zone time.

Both teams generated scoring chances as play returned to five-aside. Goner forced a save and Fleury‑Wright added another chance off a clean entry. At the other end of the ice, McPherson steadied the middle of the frame with several stops after defensive‑zone draws to keep the margin at one.

Shortly after a King's timeout, the Monarchs drew a high‑sticking minor and earned a second power play. Sommer generated two more looks and Sammi Stead tested the Neumann netminder as Tietz followed with another attempt before the horn. Although King's carried the momentum, the score stayed 1-0 through 40 minutes of play.

The third period began with another Vaughan faceoff win. After a back-and-forth stretch of action, the hosts doubled the lead at 5:26. Less than a minute later, a quick follow‑up made it 3-0.

King's answered with a push from Jones, but the response was quieted after a slashing minor went against the visitors. The penalty kill delivered again as Munn recorded a block and McPherson turned aside the rest to complete the kill cleanly.

The Monarchs produced their best third‑period surge across consecutive shifts. Goner forced a save, Fleury‑Wright drove a shot through traffic, and Barlocker and Sokol each added attempts as King's won three straight faceoffs to hold the zone.

A tripping call on the Knights at 12:25 set the Monarchs up with another chance to get on the board. Barlocker and Vaughan combined for shots, with Fleury‑Wright and Munn adding attempts from up top. After one final late kill, King's turned to senior goalie Hayley Packer for the closing minutes, who added a save as the Monarchs generated final looks from Sokol and Vaughan before time expired.

Vaughan and Goner led the King's offense with three shots apiece. Sommer, Fleury-Wright, Sokol and Jones all contributed a pair of shots. Vaughan produced half of the Monarch's faceoff wins, snapping back 16 draws. Barlocker followed with nine wins of her own.

Defensively, nine Monarchs laid out for blocks with Nina Anzalone pacing the team with two. Between the pipes, McPherson finished the season with a 30-save performance while Packer turned aside the lone shot she faced.
