Softball Splits Final Day, Closes Out Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with Victory Over SUNY Canton

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC(March 11, 2026)—The King's college softball team finished the day strong on Wednesday afternoon, bouncing back from an 11-1 loss to Pfeiffer University in game one to earn an 11-1 win of their own against SUNY Canton in game two. The split on the final day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic moves the Monarchs to 5-3 overall in 2026.

Game 1 - L, 11-1 vs. Pfeiffer

King's threatened early in the top of the first inning, loading the bases early against the Falcons. Kara Krouse opened the game with a single to center field before Breanna Goldspiel reached on a bunt single to put two aboard. Meghan Marianelli later added a single down the right field line to load the bases, but Pfeiffer was able to escape the jam and keep the Monarchs off the scoreboard.

The Falcons responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs to take the early lead. After a leadoff single and a hit-by-pitch put two runners on, both moved into scoring position on a double-steal before a two-run single up the middle gave Pfeiffer a 2-0 advantage.

Pfeiffer extended their lead in the second inning with an eight-run frame coming off eight hits and an error. The rally began with a bunt single and continued as the Falcons strung together multiple hits and aggressive baserunning to build a 10-0 advantage.

King's broke through in the fourth inning as Molly Veach worked a leadoff walk and moved into scoring position before Megan Matsko delivered an RBI single to right field, bringing Veach home to put the Monarchs on the board bring the score to 10-1.

Pfeiffer added one more run in the third inning on an fielder's choice to push the lead to 11-1. The Monarchs looked to generate late momentum, but the Falcons were able to close out the contest in the fifth inning.

Krouse led the Monarchs offensively with two hits and a stolen base. Goldspiel and Marianelli each recorded a hit, while Matsko drove in the lone run of the game with her RBI single.

Game 2 – W, 11-1 vs. SUNY Canton

King's came out of the gates with a statement, putting together a powerful first-inning rally to take an early 4-0 lead. Kara Krouse and Breanna Goldspiel set the tone with consecutive singles, and aggressive base running saw Goldspiel and Krouse move into scoring position. Paige Bergan drove in Krouse with a single, and Meghan Marianelli followed with a two-run double, pushing the Monarchs ahead 3-0. Alyssa Fox added an RBI double later in the frame, capping the four-run opening inning.

The Monarchs continued to apply pressure in the second inning, scoring two more runs on two hits and an error in the field. Goldspiel led off with a single up the middle and moved into scoring position after a groundout. Marianelli reached on a fielding error by the left fielder, allowing Goldspiel to score an unearned run. Molly Veach followed with a sharp single through the left side, driving in Marianelli and extending the Monarchs' lead to 6-0.

The Roos drove in their lone run in the top of the third on a fielder's choice, but it did little to slow the Monarchs' momentum. King's added to their advantage in the third inning as a Kara Krouse double brought in Elise Larson to push their lead to seven runs.

A powerful fourth produced the second four-run inning of the game as the Monarchs capitalized on hits, walks, and wild pitches to keep momentum and control of the contest. Veach, Madison Badali, and Brianna Kesslick all drove in runs as the Monarchs extended their lead to 11-0.

King's showcased balanced contributions across the lineup. Marianelli led the way with two hits and two RBIs, Veach also added two RBIs, and both Krouse and Goldspiel reached base multiple times while contributing key runs. Krouse stole two bases for the Monarchs while Goldspiel also swiped a bag, consistently putting pressure on the Canton defense.

In the circle, Alyssa Fox earned the victory, tossing five strong innings while allowing just one run on three hits. She struck out seven and limited the Roos' opportunities with consistency and control, walking only two batters and keeping the Monarchs in command throughout the dominant win.

Knig's softball returns to the field on Friday, March 13 as the Monarchs compete in the Margie Knight Softball classic with matchups against Manhattanville and NYU at 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively in Salisbury, MD at the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex.
