Softball Completes Road Sweep at Arcadia Behind Balanced Offense and Strong Pitching

GLENSIDE,PA (March 28, 2026)—The King's College softball team earned their third and fourth wins in a row on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Arcadia in MAC Freedom play. The wins push the Monarchs to 10-12 overall and 3-1 in conference play while the Knights drop to 7-11 overall and 0-4 in the MAC-Freedom.

Game 1 – W, 5-2

After three scoreless innings, the Monarchs struck first in the top of the fourth. Paige Bergan reached on a throwing error, and Megan Matsko followed by driving a single to right that skipped past the outfielder, allowing Bergan to score the game's opening run. Arcadia answered with a two‑run bottom half, stringing together four hits to take a 2–1 lead.

King's responded immediately in the fifth. With two outs, Colleen Shuler and Kara Krouse sparked a rally with back‑to‑back singles before Breanna Goldspiel reached on an RBI infield single to tie the game. A throwing error on the play allowed Krouse to come all the way around from second, and the Monarchs reclaimed a 3–2 advantage. Bergan added a single to keep the pressure on, but Arcadia escaped further damage.

The Monarchs added key insurance runs in the seventh. Goldspiel opened the inning with her second hit of the day, and after a walk and a fielder's choice, Meghan Marianelli lined an RBI single to center to extend the lead to 4–2. Ellie Higdon followed with a RBI single of her own, pushing the margin to 5–2.

From there, Fox and the King's defense closed the door. The right‑hander worked efficiently through the final three innings, stranding two runners in the seventh to finish off her sixth win of the season.

Fox went the distance, allowing nine hits and two earned runs while striking out one and walking one across 88 pitches.

Offensively, the Monarchs collected nine hits, led by multi‑hit efforts from Matsko, Goldspiel, and Higdon. Marianelli and Matsko each drove in a run, while Goldspiel finished with an RBI and scored once to pace a balanced attack and deliver a game one win.

Game 2 – W, 9–5

King's wasted no time applying pressure in the top of the first, exploding for three early runs. Kara Krouse opened the game with a single down the left‑field line before Breanna Goldspiel reached on an error to put two aboard. Paige Bergan then delivered a two‑run single to right‑center, and Meghan Marianelli added an RBI single to center later in the inning to push the lead to 3–0.

Arcadia answered with a run in the bottom half, but the Monarchs continued to build momentum in the second. Colleen Shuler drew a walk and Krouse followed with her second hit of the day before Bergan came up clutch once again, ripping a two‑run double to left‑center to extend the advantage to 5–1.

The Knights responded with two runs in the bottom of the second and added another in the fourth to pull within 6–5, but King's kept control throughout. In the third, Marianelli singled and Ellie Higdon walked to set the table for Madison Badali, who doubled down the right‑field line to drive in a run and push the score to 6–3.

After a quiet stretch through the middle innings, the Monarchs delivered the decisive blow in the seventh. Bergan and Megan Matsko opened the frame with back‑to‑back singles before Meghan Marianelli delivered the biggest swing of the day, a three‑run shot to left field — the Monarchs' first home run of the season — to break the game open and extend the lead to 9–5. The Monarchs closed out in the home half of the seventh to secure the conference sweep.

In the circle, Madisyn vonFrisch earned the win, working five innings while allowing four earned (four earned) with one strikeout. Alyssa Fox closed the door with two scoreless innings of relief, scattering three hits and inducing six outs on just 19 pitches to secure the sweep.

Offensively, the Monarchs tallied 11 hits, highlighted by a dominant day from Bergan, who went 3‑for‑4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Marianelli matched her with a three‑hit performance, driving in four runs and homering in the seventh. Krouse added two hits and scored twice, while Badali contributed an RBI double to round out the attack.

The Monarchs return to action on Thursday, April 2 as they head to Dallas, PA to take on Misericordia in a MAC-Freedom doubleheader with first pitch of game one set for 3:00 p.m.
