NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC(March 9, 2026)—The King's College softball team came away from Monday with two wins at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, defeating Valley Forge 8-0 in the first game before besting Thiel by a score of 3-1 in the second. The Monarchs were led by outstanding pitching performances from
Alyssa Fox and
Madisyn vonFrisch as the Monarchs improve to 3-1 overall on the season.
Game 1 - W, 8-0 vs. Valley Forge
Alyssa Fox delivered a historic performance in the circle, tossing the first perfect game in program history to lead the Monarchs to an 8-0 run-rule victory over Valley Forge on Monday morning at the FastPitch Dreams Spring Classic. Fox improved to 1-1 on the season, retiring all 15 batters she faced while striking out 12 in the five-inning effort.
The Monarchs jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as
Kara Krouse opened the frame with a single and moved into scoring position before
Breanna Goldspiel added a base hit.
Paige Bergan drove in the first run on a fielders choice, and
Ellie Higdon followed with an RBI single to right field.
Molly Veach then added an RBI single to extend the King's advantage to 3-0.
The Monarchs added two more runs in the second inning as
Megan Matsko and
Makenzie Johnson recorded back-to-back singles to start the frame. Krouse delivered with a two-RBI single to left field, bringing both runners home to push the lead to 5-0.
King's added to its lead in the fourth inning.
Megan Matsko led off with a double to right field and
Makenzie Johnson followed with a single to center. Matsko was thrown out at the plate trying to score on the play, but
Kara Krouse kept the inning going with a single up the middle to move Johnson to third.
Breanna Goldspiel then drove in a run with an RBI groundout, and
Paige Bergan added an RBI single to left field to extend the Monarchs' lead to 7-0.
King's sealed the run-rule victory in the fifth inning when Veach singled and
Madison Badali entered as a pinch runner before
Colleen Shuler tripled to center to bring home the eighth and final run.
Offensively, Krouse paced the Monarchs with a 3-for-3 performance and two RBIs. Johnson went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Matsko and Veach each recorded two hits. Bergan added two RBIs as King's totaled 13 hits in the contest.
In the circle, Fox earned the win with her historic perfect game, striking out 12 of the 15 batters she faced while needing just 66 pitches in the five-inning outing.
Game 2 – W, 3-1 vs. Thiel
Madisyn vonFrisch continued her dominant start to the season, tossing a complete game and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out two to lead the Monarchs to a 3-1 victory over Thiel. After allowing a run in the first inning, vonFrisch retired 23 of the next 24 batters she faced, keeping Thiel off the scoreboard the rest of the way and improving to 2-0 on the year.
King's broke through in the third inning with a flurry of timely hitting.
Kara Krouse opened the frame with a single to shortstop, and
Breanna Goldspiel followed with a bunt single to move Krouse into scoring position.
Paige Bergan executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, setting the stage for
Meghan Marianelli, who delivered a clutch triple to left field to clear the bases and give the Monarchs a 3-1 lead.
Madison Badali added an RBI single to center field later in the inning, extending the King's advantage.
The rest of the game was a showcase of Monarchs pitching and defense. vonFrisch scattered only one additional hit after the first inning and induced numerous groundouts and flyouts to keep the visitors off balance. Despite two errors in the field, the Monarchs found execution in crucial spots to keep those runners on base and hold on for the 3-1 win.
Offensively, Marianelli led the way with a triple and two RBIs, while Goldspiel and Badali each collected two hits. Krouse added a key single and scored a run, helping King's total 10 hits on the afternoon.
VonFrisch's complete-game performance added to a historic day in the circle, allowing the Monarchs to take both games of the doubleheader in convincing fashion.
King's softball returns to action on Tuesday, March 10 as the Monarchs face off against Martin Luther College and Penn State Abington in their third day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach, SC with start times set for 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
