Softball Drops Pair in MAC Freedom Road Doubleheader at Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ (April 18, 2026)—The King's College softball team dropped both games of a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Stevens. The Monarchs fell in the opener, 14-3 in five innings, before coming up short in the second game, 6-1, moving to 11-23 overall and 3-9 in conference play. The Ducks improve to 22-12 overall and 7-5 in MAC Freedom action.

Game 1: L, 14-3 (5 inn.)
Stevens picked up two runs in the first after a leadoff single, two stolen bases, and a wild pitch set up a groundout and a sacrifice fly to put the Ducks ahead 2-0.

Stevens added to its lead in the third, using two walks, three hits, and a double to right‑center to push across five more runs, with an error extending the frame and the lead to 7-0.

King's answered with three runs in the fourth. Breanna Goldspiel and Paige Bergan drew back‑to‑back walks, and Ellie Higdon drove in the first run with a single to right‑center. Molly Veach followed with an infield RBI single before Alyssa Fox added another run on a grounder back to the circle. Kara Krouse kept the inning moving with an infield single, but a fielder's choice ended the threat.

Stevens came with seven runs in the bottom half, stringing together six hits, two errors, and multiple wild‑pitch advances to widen the margin to 14-3. The deficit was too much for the Monarchs to overcome as the Ducks took game one in five innings.

Larson, Higdon, Veach, Fox, and Krouse each finished with a hit, while Higdon, Veach, and Fox drove in the three runs and Goldspiel, Bergan, and Higdon came around to score.

Game 2: L, 6-1
Stevens scored first in the opening inning once again after a leadoff single and two stolen bases set up an unearned run on a throwing error during a steal of third.

King's threatened in the third when Molly Veach singled through the right side and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice from Kara Krouse, but Stevens was able to escape, forcing a groundout to end the inning.

Stevens put another runner in scoring position in the bottom half, but Madisyn vonFrisch was able to work out of it as the Ducks stranded a runner at third to keep the score at 1-0.

The Monarchs broke through in the fifth and found the equalizer. Megan Matsko drew a leadoff walk, Madison Badali advanced her with a sacrifice bunt, and Veach delivered her second hit of the day to center. vonFrisch brought home the tying run on a fielder's choice to third, scoring Matsko.

Stevens answered with five runs in the sixth, using four hits, a hit‑by‑pitch, and a walk to regain the lead. The Ducks retired the Monarchs in order in the top half of the seventh to close out game two.

Veach recorded both King's hits, while vonFrisch drove in the lone run and Matsko scored.

The Monarchs are back at Betzler Field on Wednesday, April 22 as the team hosts Wilkes University in a non-conference doubleheader set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
