WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 26, 2026) -- Battling through rainy conditions that did little to dampen the Homecoming & Family Weekend atmosphere, the King's College football team rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to earn an 18-13 victory over Widener University on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. Alumni, families, and supporters packed the stands throughout the afternoon as the Monarchs secured their first win and first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) victory of the season, improving to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play while the Pride fell to 2-2 and 2-1.
 
Prior to kickoff, senior fullback Josh Brown was presented with the 2026 Father Patrick J. Sullivan Award. The honor is awarded annually to a junior or senior member of the football team who demonstrates a strong moral compass, hard work, discipline, and leadership while reflecting the values of the King's College and Holy Cross communities.
 
Widener struck first with a 40-yard field goal midway through the opening quarter, but the Monarch defense kept the visitors off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half. King's broke through with 9:20 remaining in the second quarter when Jaelin Mims found Kival Clarke in motion for a 14-yard touchdown reception. The scoring strike, Clarke's second touchdown of the season, capped a short drive and gave the Monarchs a 7-3 advantage.
 
The Monarchs added to their lead in the closing seconds of the first half. A nine-play, 41-yard drive concluded with Aaron Losada drilling a 25-yard field goal as time expired, sending King's into the locker room with a 10-3 lead.
 
Widener closed within 10-6 on a field goal late in the third quarter before taking a 13-10 advantage early in the fourth after a blocked punt was returned for a touchdown.
 
King's responded in dramatic fashion. Following an outstanding special teams sequence that pinned the Pride at their own one-yard line, Tarylle Stewart exploded through the line and made immediate contact with the ballcarrier in the end zone for a safety with 5:37 remaining, trimming the deficit to 13-12.
 
The Monarch defense delivered again moments later. After a sack by Xander Murray and key tackles by James Mangine and David Ennis forced a Widener three-and-out, the Monarch offense took possession with 1:48 remaining and marched 62 yards in nine plays. Completions to Clarke and Reynaldo Carter moved the chains before Mims connected with Eric Zebrowski on a 21-yard gain to the Widener 15-yard line. Two plays later, Mims found Devin Duana at the five-yard line, and the receiver turned upfield and raced into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown with just 14 seconds left.
 
Mims finished 20-for-33 passing for 142 yards and two touchdowns while adding 44 rushing yards. Carter led the rushing attack with 121 yards on 22 carries as King's piled up 159 rushing yards and 301 total yards of offense.
 
Duana paced the receiving corps with six catches for 49 yards and the game-winning touchdown. Clarke added four receptions for 31 yards and a score, while Zebrowski recorded three catches for 37 yards.
 
Defensively, Ennis led all Monarchs with 12 tackles. Mullery added seven tackles, a sack, and a pass breakup, while Mangine and Michael Richino each recorded six stops. Murray contributed a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss as King's limited Widener to just 166 yards of total offense and 53 passing yards.
 
The Monarchs return to action following next week's bye on Saturday, October 10 when they travel to face Eastern University in MAC competition. Kickoff from Radnor, Pa. against the Eagles is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
