Biography

Gianpaolo Licata enters his second year as an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs in 2019-20.

Personal
  • Born in San Francisco, California and is a graduate of Deer Valley High School in Antioch, California
  • Son of Caterina and Francesco Licata and has three sisters, Daniela, Matilde, and Vanessa
  • 2007 graduate of University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History
  • Thrower on the Division I Gaucho track and field team competing in the javelin, hammer, and discus
  • Coached/mentored by USATF Resident Coach, John Dagata and 3-time Olympian and 2-time National Champion Javelin Thrower Bruce Kennedy
  • Has experience coaching at the high school and collegiate level serving stints at San Marcos High School, Clayton Valley Charter High School, and Seattle University
  • During his time at Seattle from 2011-2013, the Redhawks set 25 school records and had 10 All Academic Conference Award recipients
  • Coached the first student-athlete in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the javelin throw. Dylan Burnett’s school record mark of 70.66 meters (231’10”) was also a USATF B Standard qualifying mark
  • In his eight years of coaching high schoolers where he was mentored by Bay Area Legendary Coach, John Fouts, Licata’s teams saw 28 school/age records broken
  • Best year was in 2016 when his student-athletes won seven of eight Diablo Valley Athletic League Championships. He coached Kiersten Fouts to recording a DVAL Record in the discus and Jeff Williams to the 2016 Golden West Invitational Championship in the discus. In 2017 Williams placed third at the California State Championships in the discus
