KING'S WOMEN LET 15-POIONT LEAD SLIP AWAY IN 64-62 LOSS TO DELAWARE VALLEY
DOYLESTOWN -- The King's College women's basketball team let a 15-point halftime lead slip away as host Delaware Valley College rallied over the final 20 minutes to post a 64-62 victory Saturday in Doylestown.
With the loss, King's fell to 7-8 overall and 1-1 in Freedom Conference play. Delaware Valley, meanwhile, improved to 5-8 and 1-1- in league games.
King's jumped out to a 35-20 halftime lead as
Andrea Hochstuhl and
Lauren Kendra led the way with eight and seven points respectively.
But in the second half, King's shot just 30.0 (6-20) percent from the field and committed 18 turnovers in the final stanza.
The Aggies would take their first lead of the game with 2:42 remaining when Kim Vennera made a pair of foul shots to give Delaware Valley a 60-58 lead. King's would take a 61-60 lead with 1:11 remaining when
Sarah O'Doherty converged two foul shots and Kendra made the second of two foul shots.
Delaware Valley would respond with a bucket by Vennera with with 0:17 to take a 62-61 lead, but King's knotted the score at 62-62 when
Jenna Palumbo made the first of two foul shots with 0:12 on the clock.
The Aggies then recaptured the lead on a Brooke Dittmar basket with 0:04 remaining. King's had one last shot but
Andrea Carroll missed a long three-pointer which bounced off the rim at the buzzer.
Palumbo led King's with 15 points and five rebounds, including four three-pointers. Hochstuhl finished with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Kendra added 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Delaware Valley won the game despite having just four players reach the scoring column. Vennera finished with 33 points while Moira Donohue added 20. Dittmar followed with nine while Brittany Battinieri score two.
