WILKES-BARRE –  After 110 minutes of play, city bragging rights could not be decided as the King's and College and Wilkes University men's soccer team settled for a 0-0 double-overtime tie Wednesday night at a chilly Betzler Fields.

With the draw, King's now stands at11-1-4 overall and 1-1-3 in Freedom Conference play. Wilkes, meanwhile, is 8-6-2 and 5-1-1 in league games.

In regulation, both teams failed to capitalize on the few scoring chances each had. Wilkes nearly pulled out the win with 1:33 left in the second half when a shot by Doug Moore hit the outside of the right post. After 90 minutes of regulation, Wilkes held a slim 7-6 advantage in shots.

In the first overtime session neither team managed a legitimate scoring chance, sending the contest into the final 10 minutes of play. King's was unable to make good on the best chance for either team when Wilkes goalie T.J. Balogna was able to make a lunging save on a shot by King's Dan Carle with just under five minutes left.

King's held an 11-7 advantage in shots during the game as well as a 9-3 lead in corner kicks. Monarch goalie Tim Kelly made three saves while Balogna had seven for the Colonels.

King's returns to action Saturday when the Monarchs host Alvernia College at 5:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
