Busy Homecoming Weekend for Monarch's Athletics

BUSY HOMECOMING WEEKEND FOR MONARCHS' AHTLETICS
 
WILKES-BARRE--- This weekend will be a busy one for King's College athletics. Women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball and men's soccer will all be playing at home and participating in homecoming activities. Men and women's cross-country will be on the road when they head to Elizabethtown for the Elizabethtown Invitational. Both swimming teams will also be on the road when they head to their season opener against Lebanon Valley College.
 
Following the football game, men's soccer will take the field to face conference opponent Alvernia University. King's record is currently 11-1-4 overall and 1-1-3 in the Freedom Conference. Saturday's game is set to start at 5:00pm on the new turf surface at Betzler fields.
 
Senior Cameron Audette currently leads the Monarchs offense with 17 goals and six assists for a 7th in-the-nation 40 points. Mark Timko is also boasting solid scoring numbers with five goals and four assists totaling 14 points. Freshman Joe Bender has had a balanced season so far, scoring four goals and four assists for 12 points. Dan Horn is close behind, tallying four goals and two assists, earning him 10 points. In the net, sophomore Tim Kelly has played in 1,160 minutes of soccer, making 48 saves on the season.

Saturday morning will be busy at Betzler fields, with both field hockey and women's soccer playing at 10:30am (changed from 11:00am). Both teams will be facing off against Alvernia University, with field hockey playing on Lipo Baseball Field and women's soccer playing on the Leffler Soccer Field. On the season, field hockey is currently 12-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Women's soccer stands at 2-13-1 and 0-5 in the conference.
 
So far this year, senior field hockey player Debbie Wychock has amassed 61 points from 28 goals and five assists. She is currently tied with the school record she set in 2006. Freshman forward Jenera Quinones has stepped up and scored nine goals and six assists. Danielle Terracciano is also playing solid field hockey, scoring eight goals and six assists. Christina Glenn rounds out the scoring threat with four goals and six assists. In the net, Erin McGinley has played in 815 minutes. In that time she has made 81 saves.
 
On the soccer pitch, freshman forward Becky Chateauneuf has tallied eight goals and one assist for 17 points, and she currently leads the Monarchs' scoring. Megan Inama is also aiding the cause, scoring five goals for ten points. Brianne Schmidt has scoring three goals for six points. In goal, Rachael Donatiello has played in 920 minutes and made 75 saves so far this season.
 
On the volleyball court, the Lady Monarchs have a current record of 18-7 overall, with a game pending Friday night versus SUNY-Purchase at 7:00 pm. On Saturday morning, King's will be facing off against Polytechnic State College at 1:00pm. Following the Polytechnic game, the volleyball team will be hosting an alumni game for former men and women who played at King's.
 
On the season, junior middle hitter Kat Clerici currently leads the Freedom Conference in kill percentage with 247 kills on 498 attempts, giving her a 40 percent average. Clerici also has 84 total blocks on the season, 39 solo and 45 assisted. Kaitlyn Malshefski is in a close second with 236 kills. Samantha Garrigues is currently leading the Monarchs in assists, tallying 519 for an average of 7.1 per game. Kelly Greenway is also adding to the offense with 240 assists.
 
On defense, junior libero Danielle Belfanti is also leading the Freedom in digs, totaling 495, averaging six per game. She also has 33 service aces.
