WILKES-BARRE, PA (August 11, 2026) -- The King's College men's soccer program has welcomed Jose Rivera as an assistant coach, head coach Brandon Raynor announced on Tuesday, adding an experienced goalkeeper coach and former NCAA Division I student-athlete to the Monarchs' staff.
 
Rivera joins King's after serving as a staff coach and goalkeeper coach at Herndon High School in Virginia. Working with both the varsity and junior varsity programs, he oversaw goalkeeper development, conducted technical training sessions, and assisted with team tactics, match preparation, and game analysis.
 
"We are excited to welcome Jose to our staff and the King's College community," said Raynor. "Jose will be a great addition to help Coach Pat oversee our goalkeepers' development."
 
During his time at Herndon, Rivera played an instrumental role in the development of the program's goalkeepers. Under his guidance, a varsity goalkeeper earned First Team All-District and Second Team All-Region honors, while the team captured VHSL Class 6 Regional and State Championships in 2025 before adding a district title in 2026.
 
Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Rivera competed as a member of the Radford University men's soccer program from 2019 to 2022. As a student-athlete at the NCAA Division I level, he developed a strong understanding of match tactics, player development, and team culture while competing against some of the top programs in the country.
 
While at Radford, Rivera also assisted with the program's identification camps, helping coach prospective student-athletes through technical training sessions, small-sided games, and positional instruction.
 
"Excited for this new chapter," said Rivera. "Grateful for the opportunity to be part of the program and ready to give everything I have to help our student-athletes succeed on and off the field."
 
A graduate of Radford University, Rivera earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with double majors in Finance and Business Management and a minor in Spanish. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
 
As an assistant coach, Rivera will assist with all aspects of the King's men's soccer program, with a primary focus on goalkeeper development, recruiting, and student-athlete mentorship.
