MEN'S BASKETBALL HOME AGAINST ALBRIGHT COLLEGE
WILKES-BARRE--- In their final game in November, the Monarch men's basketball team looks to close out a successful month, considering the youth of their team. Starting out the season with a surprising 4-0 record, and winning two tournaments, including an upset of then-23rd ranked Widener University, King's looks to finish the month 5-0 with a 7:00pm game in Scandlon Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 25 when they host 2-1 Albright College.
Ticket prices are set at $4 for adults, $2 for seniors and King's students, with a college ID, and children under the age of six will be admitted with no admission.
After winning the Ramada Inn/ Monarch Tip-Off Tournament, the Monarchs traveled to Susquehanna University this past weekend to face more regional opponents in SUNY-Morrisville in the first round, defeating the Mustangs 64-47, and then posted an 88-80 overtime championship victory over host Susquehanna 88-80.
Leading the team in scoring is junior Mike Wagner, who is averaging 13.8 points per-game, shooting 54.8 from the field, and going 17-of-31 as well as shooting a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Sophomore Kevin Conroy averages 12.8 points per-game, shooting 12-of-29 on the floor. Conroy is also grabbing 4.3 rebounds a game, on nine offensive and eight defensive. Junior captain Jim Schule has put up 11.0 points per-contest for the Monarchs, with a 41.7 shooting percentage, hitting 15-36 and 10-of-12 from the line. Schule has also grabbed 3.5 rebounds a game and leads King's with six steals. Freshman Chase McGowan paces the Monarchs in rebounding, averaging 7.0 boards a game, including five on offense and 23 on defense. McGowan is also putting up 8.0 points per-game and has two blocks and four steals.
As a team, King's is shooting 43.6 from the field. The Monarchs are averaging 76.5 points per-game, and holding opponents to 64.8 points.
The Lions enter the game with a 2-1 record, after falling in the championship game of the Wyndham-Reading Tournament, hosted by Albright. Leading the Lions in scoring is sophomore Andrew Pomager, who averages 12.0 points per-game, shooting 15-of-36 from the field for 41.7 percent. Pomager also averages 4.3 rebounds and has five steals. Fellow sophomore Zac Shaeffer is second in scoring average, picking up 10.3 points a game, with a solid shooting percentage of 48.0, as well as 3.3 boards a game. Senior 6-11 center Phil Hall leads the Lions in rebounds, pulling down 7.7 per-game. Hall also manages 9.7 points per-game. Junior Andre Murphy has picked up 7.7 points a game and senior Matt Bazsika has put up 7.3 points per-contest, including 10-of-12 from the free throw line, and is second on the team in rebounds. grabbing 7.0 per-game
As a team, Albright is shooting 42.5 percent from the field and averaging 74.0 points per-game, while holding opponents to 71.3 a contest. The Lions are out-rebounding with a 41.3 to 40.3 per-game average.
