Monarch Men's Basketball Suffers 73-64 Loss to Albright

ALBRIGHT MEN HAND KING'S FIRST LOSS, 73-64
 
WILKES-BARRE -- Visiting Albright College used a decisive 12-2 run with just over eight minutes left as the Lions handed King's College its first defeat of the season, by a 73-64 count Tuesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
 
With the win, Albright improved to 3-1 while King's dropped its first game of the year, slipping to 4-1.
 
The Monarchs would trail 29-26 at the half , then fought back to take a 39-36 lead with 16:09 remaining following a short jumper by Jim Schule. The teams would trade lead on seven occasions over the next eight minutes of play until the Monarchs used a jumper by Nick Reisig and another basket by Schule to built a 53-50 lead with 8:21 left in the contest.
 
From there the Lions would respond with a three-pointer by Andrew Pomager, and a lay-up and subsequent three-pointer by Matt Ashcroft to take a 58-53 lead with 6:19 remaining.
 
King's looked to answer when Mike Wagner made good on a short bucket to cut the lead to 58-55 with 5:58 remaining, but Albright countered with a 7-0 surge, capped by another three-pointer by Ashcroft to give the Lions a 65-55 advantage with 2:55 on the clock.
 
The Monarchs would cut the lead to six points on two occasions but would draw no closer as the Lions would walk away with the victory.
 
Albright scorched the nets in the second half, making 59.3 (16-27) percent of its shots in the second half while also going 10-for-10 at the foul line.
King's, which shot a pedestrian 31.4 (11-35) percent in the first half, improved over the game's final 20 minutes, shooting 44.1 (15-34) percent to finish the game with a 37.7 (26-69) shooting percentage.
 
King's forced 15 Albright turnovers while committing just eight, but the Monarchs were out-rebounded 44-34.
 
The Monarchs were paced by Reisig with 16 points and five rebounds, including four three-pointers. Schule netted 15 points with four boards and three assists while Kevin Conroy netted 12 points with five rebounds. Kyle Stackhouse chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.
 
Ashcroft led Albright with 19 points, making 8-of-10 shots from the field with three three-pointers. Pomager added 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists while Andre Murphy tallied 13 points and four rebounds. Matt Bazsika chipped in with 10 points and five boards.
