KING'S FIELD HOCKEY DOWNS FDU, ADVANCES TO SEMI-FINALS
 
 
WILKES-BARRE--- Senior forward Debbie Wychock scored two goals en route to a 4-1 win over the visiting fifth-seed FDU-Florham in the opening round of the Freedom Conference Tournament Monday afternoon at the Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex.
 
With the win, defending Freedom Conference champion King's improves to 15-4 and will travel to Artillery Park to face Wilkes University Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the semi-final round of the league tournament.  The loss eliminated FDU from the tournament and finished their season at 9-11.
 
Wychock scored the first goal of the game at 20:01, redirecting a pass from Shawna Walp. Candice Russ sent King's up 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 22:41, scoring off of a rebounded shot.
 
FDU pulled within one after Christina Fabian scored off a rebound taken by Ellen Siracuse at 29:31. Siracuse was credited with the assist. The game went into halftime with King's holding a 2-1 lead.
 
Senior Christina Glenn put King's up 3-1 at 53:41 when she took a blast from just inside the circle past FDU net minder Jamie SanFilippo, who made three saves on the day. Wychock scored her second goal of the day and continued her record-setting season with her 68th point of the year at 65:39. FDU pulled their goalie with 4:21 left in the game to get the extra attacker, but ultimately fell by a final score of 4-1.
 
The Devils held the advantage in shots, going 15-8 and King's had a slight 10-9 handle on penalty corners. Monarch goaltender Erin McGinley made seven saves on the afternoon, including several diving kick saves to earn the victory.
