KING'S WOMEN POST 82-63 VICTORY OVER MANHATTANVILLE
(Jenna Palumbo Nets 1,000th Point in Victory)

WILKES-BARRE -- Kaitlyn Fiorino scored 28 points and Kaitlyn Malshefski added a career-high 19 points to power the King's College women's basketball team to an important 82-63 victory over visiting Manhattanville College Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, King's improved to 12-11 overall and 6-4 in Freedom Conference play while moving to within one game of clinching a Freedom playoff berth. Manhattanville fell to 11-12 and 3-8 in league play.

King's raced out to a 42-24 halftime lead thanks to 12 points from Fiorino and 11 by Palumbo (left), who netted her 1000th on a three-pointer with 6:44 remaining in the first half to give the Lady Monarchs a 27-13 lead. After Manhattanville drew to within 31-20 with 4:04 on the clock, King's closed out the half with a 11-4 spurt to take a comfortable lead at the break.

The Lady Monarchs would quickly built a 46-25 lead on a bucket by Fiorino with 18:34 remaining and the Valiants would draw no closer than 12 the rest of the way.

Fiorino was 12-of-17 from the field while making 4-of-9 from three-point range. Malshefski concluded an outstanding game, finishing with a career-high 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting with eight rebounds. Palumbo, who did not score in the second half, was 3-of-8 from three point range while adding four rebounds.

Andrea Hochstuhl registered a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists while Lauren Kendra added nine points, nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Jessica Paettie chipped in with five points.

King's will look to clinch a Freedom Conference playoff berth on Tuesday when the Lady Monarchs travel to face Wilkes University at 6:00 p.m. in the Marts Center.
