KING'S BASEBALL TEAM SPLITS WITH ARCADIA

GLENSIDE -- The King's College baseball team opened Freedom Conference play with a doubleheader split with host Arcadia University Sunday in Glenside.

Arcadia won the first game 8-1 before the Monarchs took the nightcap 6-4. With the split, King's stands at 5-5 overall and 1-1 in league play. Arcadia is 3-9-1 and 1-1.

In the second game, the Monarchs trailed 2-0 after the top half of the second inning, but took advantage of an Arcadia error to score two runs in the bottom half of the frame.

King's scored three runs in the third inning on the strength of RBI singles from Pat McGlynn and Gracjan Kraszewski, along with another Arcadia error.

The Monarchs would up the lead to -3 with their final run in the fifth inning when Kraszewski singled and cored on a base hit by Matt Unger.

Dan Jenkins picked up the pitching win for King's, scattering nine hits over seven complete innings. Jenksins struck out six batters, allowed one walk and yielded three earned runs.

In the opener, the Monarchs managed just two hits, both singles from Jon Venarchick and Matt Colgan. Colgan drove in King's lone turn in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly, driving in Matt Livoy who had walked earlier in the inning.

Starting pitcher Eric Matula took the loss for King's, allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts in two-and-two-thirds innings.

The teams will conclude their three-game series Monday at 3:30 p.m. with a single game at King's Betzler Fields.
