KING'S BASEBALL TEAM DROPS OPENING TWO IN FLORIDA
ORLANDO, FLA -- The King's College baseball team opened its 2008 season with a pair of losses. The Monarchs dropped a tough 8-7 verdict to Cornell College of Iowa, then fell to a traditionally strong Wittenberg College (OH) program 15-6.
In the opener,
Jeremy Bonser topped the Monarchs with a single, two runs, and two stolen bases.
Sean Rooney,
Matt Colgan,
Phil Moskowitz, and
Gracjan Kraszewski all added one hit and scored one run each.
Matt Livoy and
Pat McGlynn also added singles for the Monarchs.
Dan Jenkins started for King's and took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, with four strikeouts and one walk in 4.1 innings.
John McNichol pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters. Matt Van Stone pitched three innings of scoreless relief, striking out three batters.
In the second game. Wittenberg broke open a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth inning. five in the fifth, and four more in the sixth to build a 13-3 lead.
Livoy paced King's by going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Kraszewski was 2-for-4 while
Matt Feci and
Pat McGlynn both added RBI singles. Colgan was 1-for-2 with two runs while Moskowitz was 1-for-3 with two runs.
Starting pitcher
Eric Matula took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in four innings.
Aaron Deroba allowed eight earned runs on eight hits in two innings.
Sean Rooney yielded two runs, one earned, on three hits in two innings.
