Men's Soccer Wins in Hard-Nosed Scrap

WILKES-BARRE, PA—The King's College Men's soccer team won their second game of the season, in a hard hitting match up against Penn State Berks. Both teams came to play today, scrapping for every free ball.

On the offensive side of the ball, King's dominated, taking 27 shots by nine different Monarchs. Sophomore Dan Horn started off the shooting galley just four minutes into the game. Horn received the ball deep in the penalty box off a pass from forward Cameron Audette. The Berks goalie came out to meet the ball and tripped Audette, who had just enough time to get the pass to Horn who tapped the ball in.

King's did not let up the rest of the game, keeping possession of the ball for the majority of the game. The shootout continued throughout the first half. Berks' goalie Jonathan Martin kept the Nittany Lions in the game making several brilliant saves. Unfortunately injury sidelined Martin for the rest of the game.

Audette kicked things off early in the second half with a breakaway goal, going one-on-one with the backup goal keeper Austin Sevcik. Audette chipped the ball over Sevcik for his first tally of the day. With just thirty-two seconds left in the game, Audette split the defense once again on a great long ball from freshman Joe Bender.

The Monarchs are on a long road series, starting off with Baptist Bible College on September 3. Kickoff for that game is slated for 3:00pm. Their next home game will be Tuesday, September 16 against SUNY-New Paltz at 4:00pm at the Betzler Fields.
