KING'S VOLLEYBALL DROPS MATCH IN HEARTBREAKER

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's women's volleyball team had an interesting second day at the Muhlenberg Tournament. In their first match of the day, they lost to Susquehanna by a score of 3-2 (25-20, 18-25, 6-25, 25-20, 13-15).
Defensive specialist Danielle Belfanti led all Monarchs in digs, tallying 33. Katie Doss chipped in on both sides of the ball, scoring 11 kills and 15 digs. Also adding to the effort were outside hitter Shannon Ellis had 10 digs, while Kat Clerici scored 8 kills. Junior Kaitlyn Malshefski scored 10 kills. On the counter-attack, middle hitter Emily Kline blocked four times, and tallied seven kills.

Samantha Garrigues, who handed out 28 assists, was named to the all-tournament team.

Their second match of the day, against the Red Devils of FDU-Florham, both coaches decided to cancel the match due to safety concerns. The rainstorms that came across the northeastern part of the country created electrical problems in the gymnasium at Muhlenberg. Both coaches cited safety concerns when the power kept going in and out and agreed to suspend the match.

The Lady Monarchs are back in action this Tuesday in Scandlon Gymnasium at 7:00pm. They will be taking on Misericordia for the second time this season. King's won the first meeting in straight sets.
