KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO WILKES 3-2
WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes broke open a 1-1 halftime tie with two second half goals, then held off a King's College rally at the end to post a 3-2 victory Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win Wilkes improved to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play while King's slipped to 8-7 and 3-2 in league competition.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead just 2:06 into the game when Amanda Peters scored off a centering pass from the wing by Jenna DiSabatino. King's fought back to tie the score with 6:25 left in the first half when Jackie Sikora deflected in a shot from just inside the circle by Shawna Walp.
In the second half, Wilkes recaptured the lead when Brittany Sines struck net on a give-and-go pass from DiSabatino with 30:33 remaining in the contest.
The Lady Colonels built a 3-1 advantage with 7:37 left when Amanda Tilley scored off a crossing pass from the left wing.
King's, however, responded with 4:58 on the clock when Calli Berryman found the back of the cage following a pass from Sikora. Wilkes, however, would hold off the King's offense down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Wilkes led in shots 14-10 and also held a 12-10 advantage in penalty corners.
King's goalie Erin McGinley made nine saves while Wilkes keeper Lindsey Davenport posted six stops.
