KING'S, WILKES TIE 1-1 IN MEN'S SOCCER
WILKES-BARRE – Joey Bender scored the game-tying goal with 6:39 remaining in regulation as the visiting King's College men's soccer team forged a 1-1 double-overtime tie with cross-town rival Wilkes University Wednesday at Ralston Field.
With the tie, King's now stands at 10-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Freedom Conference play. Wilkes, meanwhile, is now 6-8-1 overall and 2-2-1 in league games.
The Colonels took a 1-0 lead when Greg Miller scored 32:49 into the game as Wilkes entered the halftime break on top.
With time winding down, Bender took a crossing pass to the middle from George Genco and headed the ball into the net to knot the score, sending the game to overtime. After two 10 minute scoreless periods the teams settled for a 1-1 tie.
Wilkes outshot King's 25-18 while the Monarchs held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. King's goalie Andrew O'Shura made six saves while Wilkes counterpart Kaleb Smith posted five stops.
King's travel to Madison, NJ to face FDU-Florham Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
