King’s Field Hockey Earns Freedom Conference Playoff Berth with 7-1 victory Over Manhattanville

FIELD HOCKEY IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT WITH 7-1 VICTORY OVER MANHATTANVILLE
 
WILKES-BARRE - - Heather Kozimor and Calli Berriman scored two goals each to help propel the King's College field hockey team to the Freedom Conference Tournament with a 7-1 victory over Manhattanville on Saturday.
 
With the win, King's improved to a 9-7 overall record and a 7-2 Freedom conference mark, while Manhattanville dropped to a 7-9 overall record and a 1-4 conference ledger.
 
Kozimor opened up the scoring for the Monarchs in the 19:20 mark as she deflected a Shelby Trenge cross into the net. Berryman followed with a goal of her own in the 18:51 mark to give King's the 2-0 lead. The Monarchs would net the third goal of the game when Jackie Sikora put a Berryman cross into the net.
 
The Valiants would score their first goal of the game when Sarah Mason connected from a cross from Jen Ascencio inside the left post with 32:44 left in the half, with the Monarchs going into the half with the 3-1 lead.
 
Shawna Walp would soon make the score 4-1 with a straight shot into the net at the 47:24 mark. Briana Turnbaugh would connect from a cross from Sikora at the 61:18 mark to add to the Monarch lead. Goals by Kozimor and Berryman would end the offensive night for the Monarchs and help lead them to the Freedom Conference playoffs.
 
King's edged the host by a 19-3 shot margin. Erin McGinley made one save on the day for King's while Melissa Barry made seven stops for the Valiants.
 
The Monarchs will now take to the road to face DeSales University on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. match in Center Valley.
