KING'S FIELD HOCKEY EDGES DELAWARE VALLEY, 2-1

WILKES-BARRE -- Calli Berryman scored what proved to be the game-winning goal early in the second half as the King's College field hockey team posted an important 2-1 Freedom Conference victory over visiting Delaware Valley College Friday at McCarthy Stadium in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

With the win, King's improved to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Aggies, meanwhile, slipped to 7-7 and 2-1 in Freedom games.

The Aggies took a 1-0 lead at the 28:12 mark when Nikki Rogers knocked in a loose ball in front of the King's net.

The Lady Monarchs tied the score when Candice Russ made good on a penalty stroke with 7:24 left in the half.

King's pushed across the go-ahead goal when Berryman redirected a shot by Shawna Walp passed Aggie keeper Hollis Hancock to push the score to 2-1 just 4:07 into the second half.

King's owned a 10-9 lead in shots while holding a 4-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Erin McGinley made four saves for King's while Hancock stopped eight shots for the Aggies.

King's will have little time to rest as the Lady Monarchs host Montclair State University Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium
