Monarch Cagers Fall to Steven's in Tourney Opener

KING'S MEN'S CAGERS FALLTO STEVENS IN TOURNEY OPENER
 
HOBOKEN, NJ – Matt Higgins and George Greco combined for 35 points as host Steven's Institute of Technology posted a 73-56 over the King's College men's basketball team in the opening round of the Steven's Invitational Friday in Hoboken, NJ.

With the win, Steven's improved to 1-1 while the Monarchs fell to 0-2
 
With Steven's up 13-10 following a bucket b King's Matt Fiorino at 11:05, the Ducks went on a 23-12 run, taking a 36-22 lead with 2:09 left in the half.
 
King's would use a Dan Maguschak bucket to cut the lead to 36-24 at the break
 
In the second half Steve's built its biggest lead of 18 points when Russ Thompson made one-of-two foul shots with 11:47 left in the contest.
 
King's cut to the lead to 58-50 on a Kevin Conway basket, followed by one-of-two foul shots from Wil Acevedo with 4:07 remaining.
 
The Ducks used a 4-0 spurt to push the score to 62-50 on baskets by George Greco and Simon Smith with 3:17 on the clock.   A three-pointer by Greco with 1:22 left and a pair of foul shots by Bryan Franklin at 0:48 extended the Duck advantage to 71-56.
 
Conroy led King's with 25 points and five rebounds while Nick Reisig chipped in with eight points Stackhouse and Wagner chipped in with six points each.
Higgins posted a team-high 19 points while Greco 16 followed with 19 for the Ducks.
 
King's will conclude tournament [play Saturday when the Monarchs play Babson College at 4:00 p.m.
