KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS ON THE ROAD TO ALBRIGHT
READING – The King's College men's basketball team fell behind 15-0 over the first 5:31 of the game and never recovered as the Monarchs dropped a 73-45 verdict to host Albright College Tuesday in Reading.
With the loss, King's fell to 0-4 on the year while Albright improved to 3-0.
Albright came out of the gates firing and used three straight three-pointers, two from Zack Schaeffer and one from Adam VanZelst to take a 9-0 lead just 2:29 into the game. After a bucket by Derek Hall, two foul shots from Schaeffer, and a jumper by VanZelst, the Lions score the first 15 points of the game. King's went scoreless until the 14:00 mark when Nick Reisig canned a three-pointer to cut the lead to 15-3.
The Lions would steadily increase the margin and took a 20-point lead at 34-14 with 3:38 on the clock before setting for a 38-18 halftime advantage. King's shot just 29.4 (5-17) from the floor in the first half while being outrebounded 19-7 over the opening 20 minutes of play.
In the second half, King's attempted to fight back and used a inside baskets from Dan Maguschak and Kevin Conroy, along with a three-pointer by Mike Wagner to cut the leads to 11-points as the Monarchs narrowed the score to 40-29 with 15:13 remaining in the contest.
Albright, however, countered with a 9-0 run and pushed the lad back to 48-29 on a Justin Plummer lay-up with 13:37 left to play. King's drew no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
Schaeffer paced Albright with 15 points while Derek Hall followed with 12. The Lions also held a 39-26 rebounding advantage.
Reisig was the lone double-figure scorer for King's, tallying 13 points with three three-pointer. Mike McCready and Jim Schule added eight and six points respectively. Conroy, King's leading scorer at 23 points per-game, was limited to three points on 1-of-7 shooting from the field while also going 1-of-8 from the foul line.
King's will be idle until Monday when the Monarchs make their home debut against Muhlenberg College at 8:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium.
