MONARCH BASEBALL DROPS 17-12 SHOOTOUT TO GWYNEDD-MERCY
WILKES-BARRE – Visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College pushed across nine runs in the second inning and the King's College baseball team would never recover as the Monarchs dropped a 17-12 verdict Saturday at Lipo Field in the Betzler Athletic Complex. With the loss, King's slipped to 9-4 while Gwynedd improved to 7-6.
Gwynedd scored three runs in its first at-bars before the Monarchs answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the opening inning. The Griffins, however, used seven hits and sent 12 batters to the plate in the top half of the second inning to plate nine runs and build a quick 12-2 led. The Monarchs countered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and eventually cut the lead to 13-9, but Gwynedd would score four more runs in the eighth to seal the victory.
Albert DiDomenico led the Griffins with a 4-for-6 showing with four runs and two RBI. Mike Albert was 3-for-5 with five RBI. Nick Goetz and Nick DiEnno aided Gwynedd's 18-hit effort.
The Monarchs return to action Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. with a home contest against Lebanon Valley College at Lipo Field.
