KING'S BASEBALL FALLS TO LVC, 14-8
WILKES-BARRE -- Visiting Lebanon Valley College overcame a 3-2 deficit with 12 combined runs during the five, sixth, and seven innings to post a 14-8 victory over King's College Tuesday at Lipo Field in the Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex.
With the loss, King's slipped to 9-5 on the year while Lebanon Valley improved to 6-7.
The Monarchs took a 1-0 first inning lead when Mike Fignar scored and later came home on a run-scoring ground out by Gracjan Kraszewski. After Lebanon Valley scored two runs, the Monarchs tied the game in the bottom half of the third inning on a solo home run by Jon Venarchick, the senior standout's fourth round-tripper of the year. King's added another run in the fourth when Sean Rooney drilled a solo shot to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead.
The Dutchmen, however, would score five runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and five more in the seventh.
King's added two runs in the fifth on a two-run single by
Matt Unger, then two more in the seventh on a RBI double by
Jim Troianiello and a passed ball, allowing Unger to score from third base. The Monarchs added their final run in the ninth when Venarchick singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Troianiello.
Venarchick and Unger led King's 13-hit attack with three hits each. Fignar and
Rob Fravel added two hits apiece.
Joe Jenkins took the pitching loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, on six hits with five strikeouts over four and one-third innings.
Colt Zarilla and Dustin Adam led Lebanon Valley's 14-hit offense with three hits each. Nick Farina picked up the win, yielding seven runs on 11 hits in six and two-thirds innings.
The Monarchs now travel to face Marywood University Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in Scranton.
