KING'S BASEBALL FALLS IN UPSET TO  MISERICORDIA
 
WILKES-BARRE – The Visiting Misericordia University baseball team registered 20 base hits en route to a 14-1 victory over King's College Thursday at Lipo Field in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
 
With the win, Misericordia improved to 12-11 overall and 0-4 in Freedom Conference play. King's slipped to 16-7 and 5-2 in league games.

The Cougars punched across two runs in the first inning and three in each of the second and fourth innings to build an 8-0 lead. Misericordia added another pair in the sixth inning before the Monarchs finally reached the scoreboard in the seventh to bring the score to 10-1. The Cougars closed out the game with a run in the eighth and three more in the ninth to claim the victory.

Mike Murphy led Misericordia by going 4-for-5 with four runs and three RBI. Nate Newman was 3-for-4 with three RBI while Brandon Calafut went 4-for-6. Mike D'Amara finished 3-for-6 with three runs and three RBI whileCody Hack was 2-for-5 with three runs scored.. Jeff Slavonec chipped in with a 2-for-5 effort. Jamie Phillipi (1-2) was the winning pitcher, allowing nine hits and one run with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Matt Feci led King's by going 3-for-3 and a RBI. Mike Fingar was 2-for-4 while Jon Venarchick stretched his consecutive game hit streak to 13 games by going 1-for-4. Eric Matula, Gracjan Kraszewski, Matt Unger, Rob Fravel and Jim Troianiello added base hits for the Monarchs.

Ryan Derry (6-1) was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs, two earned in two innings. Andrew DeGiacomo pitched four innings of relief, yielding five runs, three that were earned.
 
King's will travel to Dallas to face Misericordia Friday at 3:30 p.m.  to wrap up the season series.
