King's Baseball Hosting Misericordia in First of Two-Game Thursday-Friday Matchups, View LiveStats

KING'S BASEBALL HOSTING MISERICORDIA, VIEW LIVESTATS
 
WILKES-BARRE --  The King's College baseball team will return to the diamond Thursday when the Monarchs host Misericordia University in a 3:30 p.m. Freedom Conference matchup at Lipo Field in the Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex. The game was originally scheduled for yesterday (Wednesday), but was postponed due to rain.

The teams will then complete their two-game series on Friday with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Misericordia in Dallas, Pa.

The Monarchs enter the matchup with a 16-6 overall record and a 5-1 Freedom Conference mark following a doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley College on Saturday. The Cougars, in their first season as members of the Freedom Conference, are 12-11 overall and 1-4 in league play. The Monarchs are led by senior third-baseman Jon Venarchick who is was named the Freedom Conference “Player of the Week” on Monday for the second straight week. 

Venarchick is batting .512 (43-84) with eight doubles, five triples, four home runs, 28 RBI, and 32 runs scored. Against Delaware Valley, he became the first player in Monarch history to reach the 200-hit plateau for his career.
 
King's is also paced by sophomore shortstop Rob Fravel who who quietly enjoyed an outstanding season with a .449 (31-69) average, including three doubles and 18 RBI. Junior outfielder Gracjan Kraszewski stands at .398 (35-88) with seven doubles and 28 RBI. Junior catcher Matt Unger chips in with a .391 (27-69) average with nine doubles and 21 RBI.

For the pitchers, senior Ryan Derry is 6-0 with a 3.24 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 33 and one-third innings. Junior Dan Jenkins is 4-0 with a 3.56 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 43 innings. Junior Eric Matula is 1-4 with a 5.49 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 39 and one-third innings. Senior Joe Jenkins is 2-2 with a 7.36 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 18 an done-third innings.

Misericordia is led by Mike Murphy who is batting .418 (35-91) with five doubles, three triples, one home run, and 13 RBI. Nate Newman follows at .398 (33-83) with four doubles, three home runs, and 19 RBI.
