KING'S BASEBALL SWEEPS EASTERN
 
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College baseball team posted a doubleheader sweep of visiting Eastern University on Saturday at Lipo Field. King's won the first game 20-8 then completed the nightcap by the score of 7-1.
 
With the sweep, the Monarchs improved to 22-13-1 overall and 9-7 in the Freedom Conference while Eastern drops to 3-28 overall and 0-15 in league play.
 
In game one King's exploded for 17 hits led by Jim Troianiello who went 2-for-6 in the game. Jon Venarchick, Matt Unger, Rob Fravel and Sean Rooney all went 2-for-5 and drove in a combined seven RBI. Getting the win in game one was Eric Matula who pitched five solid innings striking out five batters while allowing three hits.
 
In the second game, Eastern had a 1-0 lead after an unearned run when Scott Renauro doubled to right field and scored following an error. King's was able to strike back in the bottom of the fourth when Matt Unger started the inning off with a double to left field to drive in two runs, he later advanced on a pass ball. Rob Fravel drove in Unger on a triple to right centerfield. Matt Feci doubled to left field make the score 5-1.
 
The Monarchs would then drive in two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning when Venarchick grounded out to first to score Gracjan Krasewski. Feci hit a double to left field to drive home another run to wrap up the scoring in that inning.
 
Leading the way in game two was Matt Unger who was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Matula was 2-for-4 as well and scored two runs. Dan Jenkins had a stellar pitching performance going nine innings and striking out 12 batters.
 
The Monarchs will learn their playoff chances once the conference makeup games are completed.
