KING'S TENNIS DEFEATS EASTERN 8-1 FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT VICTORY

KINGSTON -- The King's College men's tennis team won its sixth straight match of the season as the Monarchs posted a 8-1 victory over visiting Eastern University Friday in the Kingston Indoor Tennis Center.  The match was moved from the outdoor Kirby Park courts to indoors due to the day-long rains in Northeastern, Pa.

With the win, the Monarchs improved to 7-4 over and 4-0 in the Freedom Conference.  Eastern, meanwhile, slipped to 2-6 and 0-3.

King's took a 3-0 lead after winning every doubles match.  The Monarchs made two big comebacks to sweep the doubles. In the number-one doubles match, King's Jonathan Hand and Povl Schmidt trailed Mike Roth and Jordan Gates 6-1 before rallying for a 9-7 triumph.  In the third doubles flight, the Monarch pairing of Tim Carroll and Jonathan Ferrie fell behind 5-1 to Dan Wilson and Sean McGuinness 5-1 before coming back to win 8-6.

Blake Bonser and David Kaluzavich were also doubles winners, downing Bryan Arnett and Taylor Kiser, 8-1.

King's would then lock up the match by winning five of the six singles contests. Hand, Schmidt, Bonser, Kaluzavich, Carroll, and Marco Stallone all won the individual contests.
