King's Baseball Splits with FDU

KING'S BASEBALL SPLITS CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER WITH FDU
 
MADISON, NJ -- The King's College baseball team posted a 9-3 victory over FDU-Florham in the second game to salvage a Freedom Conference doubleheader split Sunday in Madison, NJ.  FDU won the first game 15-5. 
 
With the split, King's now stands at 17-8 overall and 6-3 in Freedom Conference play while FDU is 13-5-1 and 4-1 in league action.
 
In the nightcap King's built a 4-1 lead after three innings but used a big four-run fifth inning to put the game away. Jim Troianiello was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Jon Venarchick was 2-for-4 with a triple, run, and RBI while Matt Unger was also 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Rob Fravel was 2-for-5 to aid the Monarch attack.  Dan Jenkins was the winning pitcher, tossing eight innings, allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts on six hits.
 
In the first game, King's trailed 2-1 in the fourth inning where FDU exploded for nine runs in the inning. Venarchick, who stretched his hitting streak to 15 games in the twin bill, led King's offensively with a 3-for-5 effort while Fravel, Unger and Sean Rooney added two hits each. The Monarchs had plenty of offense with 14 base hits but stranded 10 runners in the contest. King's starter Eric Matula took the pitching loss, allowing eight earned runs in three and two-thirds innings.  
 
King's returns to action Tuesday when the Monarchs host Wilkes at 3:30 p.m.at Betzler Fields.
