KING'S, WILKES BASEBALL TEAMS SQUARE OFF THURSDAY IN HOME-AWAY DOUBLEHEADER, VIEW LIVESTATS
 
WILKES-BARRE –  The King's College and Wilkes University baseball teams will renew their local rivalry on Thursday when the teams square off in a two-game home and away doubleheader. The first game will be held at 11:00 a.m. at King's Robert L. Betzler Fields Athletic Complex. The teams will then turn around for the short drive to Wilkes' Artillery Park in Kingston for a 3:30 p.m. contest. Both games will be nine-inning affairs.

The Monarchs enter the matchup with a 17-8 overall record and a 6-3 Freedom Conference mark after splitting a doubleheader with FDU-Florham. The Colonels are 17-5 overall and 4-1 in league play after picking up a doubleheader sweep of DeSales.
 
The Monarchs are led by senior third-baseman Jon Venarchick who leads the Freedom Conference with a .505 (49-97) batting average with nine doubles, six triples, four home runs, 30 RBI and 34 runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Rob Fravel follows with a .439 (36-82) average with three doubles and 20 RBI. Junior outfielder Gracjan Kraszewski stands at .385 (37-96) with seven doubles, one home run and 28 RBI. Junior first-baseman Eric Matula hits .345 (29-84) with five doubles, one triple and eight RBI. Junior utility-man Sean Rooney has a .333 (16-48) average with two doubles, two triples, one home run and 15 RBI.
 
Leading the way on the mound is junior Dan Jenkins with a 5-0 record and a 3.53 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 51 innings. Senior Ryan Derry is 6-1 with a 3.57 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 35 innings. Senior Joe Jenkins is 2-2 with a 6.98 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 19 innings.
 
The Colonels are led by senior Andrew Garofoli with a .478 (33-69) average with six home runs, six doubles, two triples, and 29 RBI. Junior Jeremy Watson follows at .375 (12-32) with two doubles, one home run, and seven RBI while senior Eric Wetzel is hitting .348 (24-69) with three triples and nine RBI. Senior Geoff Miller stands at .343 (23-67) with four doubles and 11 RBI while junior Randy Dengler chips in at .343 (24-70) with seven doubles, four home runs, two triples, and 21 RBI.
 
The pitching staff is paced by junior  Tom Buckler who is 7-1 with a 3.40 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 47 and two-thirds innings. He is joined by freshman Ryan Fetterman who sports a 4-1 record with a 2.33 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 38 and two-thirds innings.  Senior Justin Huff is 1-2 with a 2.95 ERA in 21 and one-third innings.
