KING'S MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS PENN STATE BERKS, 6-0

WILKES-BARRE --  Joey Bender scored three goals and Alex Martino added a pair to power the King's College men's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over visiting Penn State Berks Thursday evening at McCarthy Stadium in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

With the win the Monarchs improved to 3-1 while Berks slipped to 0-2.

King's opened the scoring at 9:21 of the first half when Bender scored off an assist from Tim Meyer.  The Monarchs quickly struck again just 0:17 later when Martino's shot on goal deflected off a Penn State Berks player and into the left side of the net.

The Monarchs would extend the advantage at 25:27 when Bender gained control of the ball deep on the left wing and managed to sneak the ball inside the left post past Lion keeper Chris Beatty. The goal gave King's a 3-0 lead, which the Monarchs would carry into the halftime break. King's dominated play in the first half, outshooting the Lions 12-2.

Bender gave the Monarchs a 4-0 cushion at 52:22 when he drilled an indirect kick into the upper left corner of the net..  King's would net another quick goal as Greg DeMaio made good just 0:44 later to give the Monarchs a 5-0 lead at the 53:08 mark.

Alex Martino upped the lead to 6-0 with a goal with 24:55 remaining in the contest.

King's outshot Berks 30-3 and held a 5-0 lead in corner kicks.  Monarch goalie Andrew O'Shura made two saves while Beatty finished with 13 stops for the Lions.

The Monarchs will be idle until Wednesday when King's plays host to Marywood University at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium
