KING'S FIELD HOCKEY EARNS 3-0 SHUTOUT OF ELMIRA

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey team built a 2-0 halftime lead before walking away with a 3-0 triumph over visiting Elmira College Wednesday at the Betzler Athletic Complex.

With the win, King's improved to 4-1 on the year while Elmira slipped to 0-4.

King's opened the scoring at the 18:11 mark when Jenera Quinones knocked in a rebound following a missed shot.  The Lady Monarchs built a 2-0 lead at the break when Shelby Trenge perfectly placed a shot into the upper left corner of the net 5:17 later.  The Lady Monarchs totally dominated the first-half play, holding a commanding 17-0 advantage in shots.

In the second half, play was contested more evenly but King's scored its final goal on a penalty stroke with 23:31 left in the contest when an Elmira defender used her hand to swat away a Lady Monarch shot as it was about to go in net.  King's Candice Russ would push the score to 3-0 when her shot beat Elmira goalie Jalene McCulloch just inside the right post.

King's, which settled for six shots in the second half, concluded the game with a commanding 23-0 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.  McCulloch posted 14 saves for the Soaring Eagles while Lady Monarch keepers Erin McGinley and Kari Leach were not forced to make a single save.

The Lady Monarchs return to action Saturday with a road trip to Elizabethtown College.
