KING'S MEN'S SOCCER DOWNS MARYWOOD, 2-1
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College men's soccer team built a 2-0 lead en route to posting a 2-1 victory over visiting Marywood University Wednesday evening at McCarthy Stadium in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
King's took a 1-0 lead at the half when Greg DeMaio scored from 15 yards out following a short cross to the middle from George Genco at the 10:22 mark.
In the second half, the Monarchs took a 2-0 lead when Joe Bender struck net off an assist from Brian McElroy at 52:35.
Ryan Jones would get Marywood on the board with 0:24 remaining when he knocked in a rebound following his own missed shot on a penalty kick.
King's outshot Marywood 12-to-6 and held a 5-to-0 advantage on corner kicks. Monarch goalie Tim Kelly made four saves while Pacer keeper Jared El Gayeh posted six stops.
King's returns to action Saturday when the Monarchs host Alfred University at 11:00 a.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
