KING'S MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS ALFRED 2-0 BY PAIR OF SCORES FROM HORN

WILKES-BARRE – On Saturday, the Horn sounded for the King's College men's soccer team. Junior Dan Horn scored both goals to lead the Monarchs to an impressive 2-0 victory over Alfred University Saturday at Leffler Field in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

With the win, King's improved to 5-1 on the year while Alfred fell to 4-2.

King's opened the scoring in the first half when Horn scored off an assist from Alex Martino at the 19:43 mark. The Monarchs made it 2-0 in the second half when Horn struck net for his second goal following a short pass in front of the net by Joey Bender.

The Monarch defense also played big in the game, holding the Alfred attack to just six shots, compared to 18 for King's. Monarch goalie Andrew O'Shura preserved the shutout in the final minutes when he made a spectacular diving save on a penalty kick from Cory Hill with 1:30 remaining in the contest. O'Shura made three saves on the day compared to eight by Alfred keeper Elliott Thorpe. The Monarchs also held a 8-to-3 advantage in corner kicks.

King's returns to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. home matchup against Moravian College at McCarthy Stadium in the Betzler Complex.
