KING'S FIELD HOCKEY EARNS FIRST CONFERENCE VICTORY OVER FDU-FLORHAM, 4-2
MADISON, NJ – The King's College field hockey team built a 2-0 halftime lead before walking away with a 4-2 triumph over host FDU-Florham Saturday in Madison.
With the win, King's improved to a 5-3 overall record while picking up its first conference victory of the season. FDU-Florham slipped to 2-7 overall while dropping its first conference game.
Sophomore Shawna Walp recorded the first goal of the game for the Monarchs at the 5:30 mark. Shelby Trenge then connected with an assist from Calli Berryman with 13:58 left in the first half to give King's the early 2-0 advantage. FDU-Florham cut into the Monarch lead at the 37:48 mark when Ellen Siracuse scored off a helper from Lauren Fabrizio.
Jenera Quinones helped the Monarchs respond with a goal at the 45:53 minute mark. Quinones would then go on to assist on an insurance goal from Jackie Sikora at the 57:34 mark. FDU-Florham would push through one last goal when Fabrizio scored off an assist from Kelsey Kistle with 5:40 left in the contest
The Monarchs edged the host by a 18-16 shot margin. Erin McGinley made four saves on the day for King's while Meghan O'Neil posted eight stops for the Devils.
King's returns to action at home on Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference tilt against the University of Scranton in the Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex.
