MEN'S SOCCER POST 2-1 DECISION OVER GWYNEDD-MERCY COLLEGE
GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA –
Dan Carle and
Joey Bender both scored a goal each as the Monarch men's soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over host Gwynedd-Mercy College Saturday in Gwynedd Valley.
With the win King's improved to 6-2, while Gwynedd-Marcy slipped to 3-6.
Carle gave King's the early 1-0 lead on a penalty kick 23:33 into the game. The Griffins would tie the game at the 11 minute mark of the first half with a breakaway goal down the right side by Nick Stangler, who received the assist from Tim Mumford.
Joey Bender scored the game-winner for the Monarchs 25:15 into the second half as
Tim Meyer pushed the ball through to Bender who scored on a one-on-one against the Griffin goalie.
King's outshot Gwynedd-Mercy 12-7 and held a 2-1 advantage on corner kicks. Monarch goalie
Andrew O'Shura made five saves. While Mike Leonard had eight saves in 73:45 mintues in the net for Gwynedd-Mercy .
King's returns to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Keystone College in LaPlume.
