KING'S MEN'S SOCCER EDGES BAPTIST BIBLE, 2-1 IN SEASON OPENER
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's soccer team made its home debut a successful one as the Monarchs posted a 2-1 victory over visiting Baptist Bible College Thursday evening at McCarthy Stadium.
King's led off the scoring at the 11:59 mark when Joey Bender converted following a lead pass to the middle from Greg DeMaio. The Monarch advantage would last just 0:28 when Baptist Bible (0-2) tied the game on a goal by Joe Peterson with at 12:27.
King's took the lead when Kevin Moulton converted a corner kick off the foot of George Genco at the 28:35 mark to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead heading into the halftime break.
In the second half, both teams were unable to capitalize on several scoring chances as the Monarchs managed to hold on to the victory.
King's outshot Baptist Bible 21-6 and held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks. Monarch goalie Tim Kelly made two saves while Defender keeper posted eight stops.
The Monarchs return to action on Saturday when King's travels to Vermont to face Green Mountain College at 4:00 p.m.
