King's Field Hockey Upset 15th Ranked Stevens 1-0 in Double-Overtime on Quinones Goal

KING'S FIELD HOCKEY UPSETS 15TH RANKED STEVENS TECH, 1-0 IN TWO DOUBLE-OVERTIME
 
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore forward Jenera Quinones made good on a breakaway opportunity 1:05 into the second overtime period as the King's College field hockey team posted a 1-0 victory over 15th ranked Stevens Institute of Technology  in the Stevens Field Hockey Invitational at the De Baun Athletic Complex on Sunday. Both teams stand at 2-1 on the year after the contest.

In the first half both teams were unable to convert on the few chances available. King's held an 8-5 advantage in shots after 35 minutes but the teams entered the break knotted at 0-0.
In the second stanza KIng's struggled to generate offense, tallying only one shot in the remainder of regulation. However, a stromg Lady Monarch defensive effort would limit Stevens to few quality shots of their own.
 
In the first overtime period, King's threatened early, taking four quick shots, two of which were stopped by Stevens goalieLauren Griggs. The Ducks were able to swing the momentum in their favor over the final 10 minutes of the first overtime, once again just missing on several opportunities. The Ducks held a 5-4 advantage in shots in the first overtime and took three penalty corners compared to two for King's.
 
Stevens controlled the ball early in the second overtime but King's quickly gained possession after a Stevens turnover. Quinones streaked down the left sideline, angled into the circle, made a move, and sealed the win with her second goal of season.
 
Senior Kari Leach got the win in net for the Lady Monarch's, making three saves over the final 26:51 of the game. Griggs took the loss with six saves.
 
Stevens ended with a 15-14 edge in shots andalso held a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners but had trouble generating many scoring chances from them.
