King’ Soccer Teams Open Freedom Play against FDU-Florham in Saturday Doubleheader

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College men's and women's soccer teams will begin Freedom Conference play Saturday when the squads welcome FDU-Florham to McCarthy Stadium for a doubleheader. The women's contest will kickoff at 5:00 p.m. with the men's match to follow at 7:00 p.m.

The Lady Monarchs enter their conference opener with a 1-9 overall mark following a 5-1 loss against Lycoming College on Wednesday. Becky Chateauneuf tops the squad with 15 points on five goals and five helpers. Jade Zuniga follows with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Goalie Melissa D'Aniello has a 3.56 goals against average with 10 saves in three matches.

 

The FDU-Florham women's team comes into the contest with a 5-4-1 record after a 1-0 loss against #23 Widener University on Wednesday. Lora Fink leads the Devils offensive attack with 20 points on seven goals and six assists. Brittany Kanickij adds 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Lauren Albrecht has a 1.18 goals against average with 31 saves and three shutouts.

 

The Monarch men enter their Freedom opener with a 6-4 overall mark following a 2-1 loss against Susquehanna University on Tuesday. King's has seen a balance in their scoring this season as 18 different Monarchs have recorded points. Joey Bender leads the attack with 14 points on five goals and two assists. Alex Martino contributes eight points on four goals, while Dan Horn adds seven points on three goals and an assist. Andrew O'Shura boasts a 0.97 goals against average with 19 saves and one shutout.

 

The FDU-Florham men's team stands 5-4 on the year following a 1-0 victory at Washington and Jefferson University on Sunday. Josh Corpuz tallies a team-best nine points on four goals and an assist, while Josef Hess follows with seven points on three goals and one helper. Devils goalie Kevin Herbert has a 0.59 goals against average with 24 saves and three shutouts.

 

Following the games, King's women's team will travel to Lebanon Valley College Tuesday for a non-conference tilt scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The Monarch men will host non-conference foe Juniata College Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
