KING'S MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS FDU-FLORHAM IN FREEDOM OPENER, 1-0
WILKES-BARRE -- Kevin Buchanan's early goal proved to be the difference as host King's College posted a 1-0 shutout win over FDU-Florham in both teams' Freedom Conference opener Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's sees its overall mark move to 7-4 and stands 1-0 in Freedom play. FDU-Florham slips to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in conference matches.
King's took the only lead it would need early in the first half when Joey Bender headed a nifty pass across the net to the leg of Buchanan who beat Devils keeper Tim Kirk inside the left post at the 12:11 mark.
The teams would trade scoring opporutnities throughout the second half, but Monarch goalie Andrew O'Shura was up to the task making one huge save late in the game to seal the conference victory.
King's held a 14-7 shot advantage, while garnering eight corner kicks. Kirk finished with five stops on the night.
The Monarchs will continue their home stretch Tuesday when they welcome non-conference foe Juniata College to McCarthy Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
