King's Field Hockey Posts 6-1 Conference Win Over Wilkes

KING'S FIELD HOCKEY POSTS 6-1 WIN OVER CROSS TOWN RIVAL WILKES

WILKES-BARRE – Danielle Terracciano scored two goals with an assist to lead the King's College field hockey team, to an important 6-1  Freedom Conference victory over cross-town rival Wilkes University Wednesday night at Ralston Field.

With the win, King's improved to 11-3 and 4-1 in Freedom Conference play while Wilkes slipped to 4-8 and 0-5 in league games.

Jackie Sikora gave King's a 1-0 lead off a pass from Jenera Quinones at 12:10 into the match. Five minutes later Terracciano scored her first goal unassisted. The Lady Monarchs built a 3-0 advantage 2:12 into the second half when Calli Berryman scored unassisted. After Shawna Walp  became the fourth different player form King's to score off an assist by Terracciano at the 41:13 mark, Quinones struck net on a penalty stroke 2:47 later.

Wilkes got on the board when Gina Elmy scored off an assist by Marni Mancini to cut the lead to 2-1 at the 45:25 mark, but King's tacked on the final goal of the game with 0:54 when Terracciano knocked in a loose ball during a scramble following a penalty corner.

King's held a decisive 20-3 advantage in shots as well as a 19-7 lead in penalty corners.

King's goalie Erin McGinley made one save while Lady Colonel keeper Lindsey Davenport had seven stops.

The Lady Monarchs return action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup with Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
