MONARCHS SOCCER BLANKS WILKES, 4-0

WILKES-BARRE – Alex Martino scored a pair of goals to power the King's College men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Wilkes University Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, King's improved to 9-6 and 2-2 in Freedom Conference play while Wilkes fell to 4-11 and 1-3.

King's took a 1-0 lead at the 13:13 mark when Alex Martino converted a rebounded shot into a Monarch score.  King's tacked on another goal at 24:45 when Martino made good on a header inside the right post following a perfect crossing pass by Joey Bender as the Monarchs took a 2-0 lead at the halftime break.

King's upped the score to 3-0 with 18:57 left in the contest when Max Allegro scored off a through pass by Bender. The score quickly grew to 4-0 when senior Dan Horn scored unassisted just 1:21 later in his final home game at McCarthy Stadium

The win was a sweet one for King's seniors Horn, Dan Mortenson Dan Carle, Josh Stocker, and Kevin Moulton who closed out the home careers with a decisive victory over the arch-rival Colonels.

King's outshot Wilkes 20-6 and held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.  Monarch goalie Andrew O'Shura posted four saves while Colonel keeper Kaleb Smith, a one-time Monarch player, had six stops.

King's will travel to St. David on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. contest against Eastern University.
