KING'S MEN'S SOCCER HOSTS CROSS-TOWN RIVAL WILKES IN KEY FREEDOM CONTEST

 

WIKES-BARRE – The King's College men's soccer team looks to gain ground in the Freedom Conference playoff push as the Monarchs welcome cross-town rival Wilkes University to McCarthy Stadium Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. King's is tied for fifth place with Misericordia University, while the Colonels sit in the seventh spot heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.

King's enters the contest with a 9-6 overall mark, standing 2-2 in Freedom play following a 3-1 defeat at Manhattanville College on Saturday. Joey Bender leads the offensive attack with 20 points on seven goals and six assists. Tim Meyer follows with 12 points on five goals and two helpers, while Alex Martino adds 11 points on five goals and one assist. Monarch goalie Andrew O'Shura boasts a 1.23 goals against average with 30 saves and two shutouts.

 

Wilkes comes into the contest with a 4-11 overall record, 1-3 in league play after suffering a 1-0 loss at FDU-Florham on Saturday. The Colonels are led by Michael Turner with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. Ed Zulkoski follows with 13 points on five goals and three helpers. Wilkes keeper Kaleb Smith has a 2.15 goals against average with 75 saves and one shutout in 13 matches played.

 

Following the contest, King's will take to the road Saturday when the Monarchs travel to St. David's, Pa. for a Freedom matchup against Eastern University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
